I wonder if birds mind signing out of tune

I reckon they don't pay too close attention to those sorts of things

Action Reaction and the Time in between

There is something fantastic

about the action reaction of a pool stick smacking in the cue ball

it ricocheting with a clank to bum-bump a solid ball down the sink

The sound, the sight, the observability and quickness.

What Newton left out of his famous every action there's a reaction mantra

is the fuse. How long it takes

The Brightest Red Balloon

Eyes see colour the same way every day

To the Statues in my Mind

I tend to build monument of my character in my mind

and like all monuments, they fail to capture the appropriate scale

If I am not the fastest should not cause disappointment but the statue of Hermes sure thinks it should

Never enough...

Maybe these monuments

serve purposes against my own happiness

Slaves to what I could be but

Are we not Men?

I know what separates us sapiens

from our brothers in the Animal Kingdom

One; We see ourselves in others eyes

and Two; we tell stories

I once heard planes defined humanity

not that we invented them but instead that we don't kill each other in such a stressful environment

I can't imaging a bunch of chimpanzees on a plane

Ants are interesting but I'm not sure if they really learn or share what they learn beyond simple pheromones

So I'll stick by my guns

The Hunger and Thirst

Every action, every thought

is tiresome

It's a fast but time is so slow

I do see clearly though

what I have done

it's what makes us human

that we don't kill each other

Instead reaching out a hand

that you can barley help yourself

are you truly vulnerable

Look me in eyes

we are not so different

In fact I think we are more or less the same

I mean no harm

and assume you don't either

the World is kinder when we say hello

I never cared before of what you believe

why would now be any different

Now don't worry I am not asking for your hand down the aisle

Just that we both stand next to each other and have the willingness to listen and be decent

P.S. That title is in the prologue from Kurt Vonnegut's Jail Bird in which a highschooler wrote to Kurt summarizing his work with those words. Those words were written by John Figler, who must've been 17 back in 1979 which makes him some 60 odd years old today. I hope he is well. Peace

On Faith

It is not hard to maintain the amount of piety

I observe

But even the little I do goes beyond what many young Americans

can tolerate

It is not about believing

in the traditions

It is just about doing them

Afterall I am here in part due to them

I don't think it's dishonest to act this way

Electric Flicker

Although the electric candle light flickers

it does little to flame that primate part of my brain that lights up during a bonfire

Something special, intangible about a large dancing pyre

Our own beams of light seem to meld with the World's

briefly, and before human eyes

It must be as close as us layfolk get to seeing

We may try to imitate with circuity and LED,

To the snake I ran over with my bike

You coiled up to reduce your size

If it is any condolences, you scared me

and anyhow I did not look back to check on you

Canned green beans

The Snake eats its tail again

It is hungry

Hungry for more

more than it alone can provide

but it's tail is all it sees

No garden of Eden

nor golden arches

It believes it should sustain itself

by itself

Our serpentine friend is foolish but familiar

so ever more it goes around the merry go round

of days, weeks, years

never growing, blind

Until it chooses to see the light
